Last week, I announced via Twitter that I’d be joining Adobe as a Senior Product Manager.
How people reacted: OMG! Amazing, congrats! Cheers mate!
My thoughts internally: Cool, cool, cool. This is a requirement for the progression of how I want to contribute to the technological advancement of creativity. Somebody has to do this, so why not me (in this capacity)?
It’s really hard for me to celebrate things that I’ve planned out. I’m often more excited during the pursuit of the goal. With that said, there are some very specific reasons as to why I believe it made sense to go after Adobe for employment.
To help people be creative means you can help spark joy
The imagination is the greatest untapped resource in human history. We often try to be imaginative in an effort to be creative in pursuit of being fulfilled. Most fail to reach fulfillment. It’s often due to a creative block, lack of resources, and sometimes there are just too many options (tooling) to help you build the thing.
I want to remove these creative roadblocks for as many people as I can. And I believe working with Adobe will help me achieve this goal.
If I can help folks build more things that bring them joy, then I will be fulfilled in my role.
I’ve used Adobe already for over 10 years — almost every day
During my senior year of college, I made the decision to only work for companies that I actually cared about and used on a regular basis.
When I went to work for Particle, I had been using and building on their platform every single day for a year before joining the company.
When I went to work for GitHub, I had already been using their software collaboration platform for nearly half a decade.
And now as I head to Adobe, it brings my career full circle as Adobe captured my first interactions with being “creative” when I used Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop way back in 2007.
People love working at Adobe
This matters a lot. I did a ton of research in this department before accepting the offer. I’m excited to join nearly 20,000 other employees who are committed to pushing creativity forward in the digital age.
Ciao,
Corey
